How does the program work?

Our weight loss program is supervised by Dr. Malik, who is extensively trained in medical aspect of weight loss. She will meet with you and create a personalized plan just for you. Our weight loss program includes nutrition and behavior modification counseling, medications and meal replacements. During the program, you will attend either group or private sessions with our behavioral weight loss counselor. She will provide the nutrition and behavioral education and the exercise guidance needed to produce safe quick weekly weight loss, and the information that you’ll need to make lifestyle changes for weight loss maintenance.

What should I expect?

First, call and scheduled medical weight loss information session where we explain the details of the program and the tools we use to help you make small, daily lifestyle and behavioral changes. If you decide that it’s time for you to make a healthy change, you’ll leave a deposit and schedule your first visit with Dr. Malik where she will give you a physical exam, go over your medical history & medications in detail, and review your EKG and bloodwork. You’ll meet with our behavioral/nutritional counselor, have a complete orientation of the program, and begin your journey discovering The TrueU.

What type of diet do you prescribe?

Since there is evidence that if you take food choices away it makes it easier to adhere to a weight loss program, we use the New Directions program designed for medical providers. It takes food choices out of the equation. The program allows your body to burn its own stored fat for energy, instead of using excess consumed carbohydrates, while it protects muscle mass. It’s easy to follow, convenient and the varied delicious choices help keep you on the program. Some people may go on a modified meal replacement program instead of using meal replacements as their sole source of nutrition, depending on their medical indications.

Will I be hungry?

Our reduced carbohydrate, high protein meal replacements and snacks are designed to curb your appetite; most people report that their hunger is reduced or even disappears 2 to 3 days after starting our programs. You will be evaluated weekly and monitored by Dr. Malik who may prescribe appetite suppressant, if necessary.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

When followed correctly our program typically delivers an average weight loss of 3-5 pounds per week for women and 5-7 pounds a week for men.

How long is the program?

The length of your treatment is largely dependent on your motivation to lose weight and the amount of weight that you need to lose. To see significant results, most of our patients should expect to participate in our program for at least 12 weeks.

How often will I come to The True U?

You will be scheduled for weekly check-ins to monitor your weight, blood pressure and progress, and attend either a group or private meeting with our behavioral weight loss counselor. Dr. Malik will monitor your progress, meet with you for a medical exam monthly, re-evaluate your lab work and adjust medications along the way if necessary.

What happens when I reach my goal?

Congratulations! We have been preparing you for this day right from the start.Wewill gradually transition you to eating grocery food during the sustaining phase, and than into our S.T.A.R. program (Steps To Avoid Regain). From your first day at The TrueU, you have been attending classes or private sessions preparing you for weight loss maintenance; often the neglected part of an effective weight loss program. We have been teaching you about nutrition in real life terms. We have been informing you on how to make the best choices, and how to prepare food the best way in order to keep your weight off. We helped separate fact from fiction concerning new food products and choices available so you can choose the best choices for yourself and not be tied to a diet forever.

We have helped you to deal with your relationship with food by identifying your triggers and replacing them with alternate behaviors. We have helped you navigate social situations, identify your triggers and combat stress eating. You have already begun to craft your new mindset and lifestyle. Your new lifestyle has prepared you to eat “regular” food, and attending our classes on a regular basis will keep you in check.

How much does it cost?

We have several affordable programs available to patients. In most cases, you will spend less on the The TrueU program compared to your normal weekly grocery bill and restaurant purchases! Also, consider the “saved” cost of medications which may be reduced or discontinued resulting from your rapid weight loss.

Do you accept insurance?

Some of our patients have submitted claims to their insurance companies and received reimbursement and we are happy to provide an itemized bill for you.

We do not accept insurance, however, you may use your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA).
