As soon as you begin The TrueU program, you will start weekly group classes providing you with the support and skills needed to help you manage your weight. Private counseling sessions are also available. At each class, you will learn a variety of behavioral and lifestyle concepts and habits that will help you maintain your new weight for the rest of your life.

A medical examination is conducted by Dr. Malik including a detailed medical history and a review of your personal diet history, your eating behaviors, habits and lifestyle. She will discuss your blood lab results, addressing any thyroid, metabolic  or hormonal issues that can be affecting your weight or ability to lose and maintain a healthy weight. Weight loss medicines can be prescribed if necessary.

Typically, during this time of rapid weight loss, women will lose an average of 3-5 pounds per week and 5-7 pounds per week for men. Dr. Malik will monitor your progress and go over your bloodwork and EKG. You’ll meet with your behavioral weight loss counselor weekly at group class, and discuss issues such as nutrition, coping with temptation, stress management, and various other cognitive behavioral techniques. We will help you lose the weight and replace self-defeating behaviors with positive alternatives to create habits which evolve into a lifestyle. As you lose weight, you’ll likely notice more energy and easier everyday tasks, such as climbing stairs and getting in and out of cars. Soon, you’ll experience a new level of confidence and enthusiasm for the next phase, which is crucial for maintaining long-term weight loss.

As you get closer to your weight loss goals, we will carefully advise you and evaluate your food choices. You’ll continue to be monitored by Dr. Malik, and attend classes where you will learn and apply behavioral techniques to ensure that you transition smoothly and avoid weight regain by learning how to handle the challenges of life without falling back into poor eating habits you will have an easier time maintaining your new, slimmer self.

You will be eating all foods and practicing the behavioral techniques you learned in class or counseling sessions. We’ll help you make the best food choices for weight loss maintenance, and introduce you to new products and choices to keep your palate satisfied and your weight from creeping back up. It’s also important to continue attending classes during this phase, as accountability and support from others can help you maintain your weight loss.
