HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

Our weight loss program is supervised by Dr. Ritu Anand, who is extensively trained in medical aspect of weight loss. She will meet with you, evaluate your medical history and recommend our program of meal replacements or a modified protocol with the addition of grocery foods. The TrueU weight loss program includes nutrition and behavior modification counseling, medications (if requested) and meal replacements. During the program, you will attend group or sessions with our behavioral weight loss counselor. She will provide nutrition and behavioral education and exercise guidance needed to produce safe quick weekly weight loss, and the information that you’ll need to make lifestyle changes for weight loss maintenance.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

First, call us and schedule your free medical weight loss consultation session where we explain the details of the program and the tools that we use to help you make small, daily lifestyle and behavioral changes. If you decide that it’s time for you to make a healthy change, we’ll schedule your first visit with Dr. Ritu Anand where she will give you a physical exam, go over your medical history & medications in detail, and review your EKG and bloodwork. Next, you will meet with our behavioral/nutritional counselor to begin your journey discovering The TrueU. We start by preforming a body composition analysis to establish your weight, body fat, muscle mass baseline, and metabolic rate. We repeat the analysis several times during the program to make sure you’re losing body fat, and not water.

WHAT TYPE OF DIET DO YOU PRESCRIBE?

Evidence shows that if you take food choices away it makes it easier to adhere to a weight loss program and focus on habit & behavior change. We use New Direction Meal Replacements designed for medical providers. It takes food choices out of the equation giving you all the nutrition you need for quick weight loss. It allows your body to burn its own stored fat for energy instead of using ant excess consumed carbohydrates, while it protects  your muscle mass. It’s easy to follow, convenient and the varied delicious choices help keep you on the program. Some people may go on a modified meal replacement program instead of using meal replacements as their sole source of nutrition, depending on their medical indications.

WILL I BE HUNGRY?

Our reduced carbohydrate, high protein meal replacements and snacks are designed to curb your appetite; most people report that their hunger is reduced or even disappears 2 to 3 days after starting our programs. You will be evaluated weekly and then monitored by Dr. Ritu Anand.

HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN I EXPECT TO LOSE?

When followed properly, our program typically delivers an average weight loss of 3-5 pounds per week for women and 5-7 pounds a week for men.

HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?

The length of your treatment is largely dependent on your motivation to lose weight and the amount of weight that you need to lose. To see significant results, most of our patients should expect to participate in our program for at least 12 weeks.

HOW OFTEN WILL I COME TO THE TRUE U?

You will come in for weekly check-ins to monitor your weight, blood pressure and progress, and attend a weekly virtual meeting with our behavioral weight loss counselor. Dr. Ritu Anand will monitor your progress, meet with you for a medical exam monthly, re-evaluate your lab work and adjust medications along the way if necessary. We have a remote program available to accommodate you if necessary.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I REACH MY GOAL?

Congratulations! We have been preparing you for this day right from the start. We will gradually transition you to eating grocery food during the sustaining phase, and then to our S.T.A.R. program (Steps To Avoid Regain). From your first day at The TrueU, you have been attending classes/meetings preparing you for weight loss maintenance; often the neglected part of an effective weight loss program. We have been teaching you about nutrition in real life terms. We have been helping you to make the best choices in social situations, and how to prepare food the best way in order to keep your weight off. We helped separate fact from fiction concerning new food products and choices available so you can choose the best choices for yourself and not be tied to a diet forever. We have helped you to deal with your relationship with food by identifying your triggers and replacing them with alternate behaviors. We have helped you navigate social situations and combat stress eating.

You are ready! You have already begun to craft your new mindset and lifestyle and are prepared to eat “regular” food and make your best choices, and we will be there to monitor and support you for continued success!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Each patient’s program is priced individually, and we have several affordable payment options. In most cases, you will spend less on the The TrueU program compared to your normal weekly grocery bill and restaurant purchases! Also, consider the “saved” cost of medications which may be reduced or discontinued resulting from your rapid weight loss.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

We accept most insurance carriers for your medical visits; however, the meal replacement program is not usually covered. Some of our patients have submitted claims to their insurance companies and received reimbursement and we are happy to provide an itemized bill for you.
